Drones vs robotics vs coding: what's the difference?
These get mixed up a lot. Knowing the difference helps you pick the right path.
Each one's focus
- Drones — flying control and airborne tasks; often paired with coding and competition.
- Coding — logic and algorithms; a drone is just one way to see results instantly.
- Robotics — mechanical, sensor and control systems; building and controlling.
- Model aircraft — designing, building and flying models; hands-on and aviation-focused.
They overlap
Drones can be coded; robots can fly; model aircraft share the same flight principles. Don't get stuck on which is "proper" — follow what your child enjoys doing with their hands.
Choosing
- Loves to fly and watch — start with drones.
- Loves logic — start with coding, using a drone or robot as the vehicle.
- Loves to build — robotics or model aircraft fit better.
The path isn't a label — it's what your child keeps coming back to.
