FAQ

Drone training FAQ for parents

SkyYouth · 5 min read

1. What age can my child start?

Many start at 6–8 for fun, 9–12 for structured entry, and 13+ for competition. Readiness matters more than age.

2. Is it dangerous?

With the right drone, clear rules and supervision, risk is manageable. Safety is part of the learning.

3. Do I need an expensive drone?

No. Tough, repairable and easy to fly beats expensive for beginners.

4. Will it help with admissions?

Be sceptical of "guaranteed" claims. Treat skills as the goal, not a certificate.

5. Does my child need a licence?

Depends on the drone and use. Some must be registered by law — check your local rules.

6. Is it for boys or girls?

Both. It's hands-on thinking, not a gendered hobby.

7. Can we practise indoors?

Yes — small guarded drones work well for hovering, circuits and precision drills.

8. Will it hurt schoolwork?

With a sensible schedule, many parents find focus improves rather than suffers.

9. How fast will they improve?

With a steady rhythm, noticeable control in a few weeks to a couple of months.

10. What's the safest way to start?

Start with one beginner drone to test interest, then decide on lessons. Take our readiness quiz first.
